Lanterns to Pierle

14/12/2025 - For the feast of Saint Lucy, which takes place every year on December 14th, children from the valley's schools presented their representation of Saint Lucy inside the Rocca di Pierle, coinciding with the Christmas Markets held in the small Cortona village on December 6th, 7th, 8th, 13th, and 14th, 2025.

The Valdipierle Proloco organized a wonderful event, allowing the children to recite their poems and sing their songs within the evocative setting of the Rocca. We thank all the teachers, educators, families, and especially all the children who contributed to this moving event.

These photos show some moments from the evening, which began around 5:00 p.m. The children sang on the Rocca's stage, then read their prayers to Saint Lucy, and finally helped their parents set off the lanterns.

The most moving moment of the evening was the launch of the lanterns, kindly donated by the Pro Loco. Anyone who wanted to took a lantern and took care of three lanterns, trying to ensure a synchronized takeoff.

The combination of the lanterns' light with the romantic atmosphere of the Rocca at night offered a unique, extremely engaging and exciting spectacle.

The lanterns used for this event meet the highest safety standards; they are made of bamboo fiber and rice paper and are free of microplastics.

Furthermore, the lantern frames are made entirely of bamboo, so they have no impact on the environment or pose a danger to wildlife.

Furthermore, the chemical charge is non-polluting and contains a modest amount of fuel, so it does not pose a fire risk. Winter is the most suitable time to use these equipment.

The lanterns now rise into the sky, bringing with them an emotion, a moment of joy, and the hope that the wish each of those present has expressed in their hearts may somehow come true.
